Dear
Sir/Madam,
When, more
than 30 years
ago, the Club
of Rome
published its
"Limits to
Growth"
warning about
the
unsustainable
direction in
which the
world was
heading, it
was
effectively
ignored and we
continued with
"business as
usual". Now we
are finding it
very hard to
admit that it
was a
monumental
mistake (Today's
editorial).
If only now we
had another 30
years to make
the radical
adjustments to
our economy
and way of
life necessary
to make them
sustainable.
But we
haven't. We
are where we
are, and are
still not
facing up to
the magnitude
and urgency of
the problem.
There are
degrees of
denial and to
a greater or
lesser extent
that is were
we ALL are.
Besides
praying that
our children
and
grandchildren
will find some
way to forgive
us, I suggest
that we at
least try
giving them a
reason for
doing so.
